Embora fatores ambientais como a nutri\u00e7\u00e3o tenham uma forte influ\u00eancia no crescimento do corpo humano, est\u00e1 claro que a altura \u00e9 uma caracter\u00edstica altamente heredit\u00e1ria. Na verdade, acredita-se que at\u00e9 80% da altura de uma pessoa seja geneticamente determinada! No entanto, a altura \u00e9 uma caracter\u00edstica muito complexa, influenciada por muitas variantes do genoma. Para identificar variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas \u00e0 altura, este estudo examinou mais de 250.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia. Os pesquisadores descobriram 697 variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas \u00e0 altura. Juntas, essas variantes explicam ~ 16% das diferen\u00e7as de altura observadas entre as pessoas.
