Embora os fatores ambientais (por exemplo, culturais e econ\u00f4micos) estejam fortemente ligados ao comportamento reprodutivo, acredita-se que a gen\u00e9tica explique at\u00e9 50%. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o de todo o genoma de quase 700.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia encontrou 10 variantes associadas \u00e0 idade do primeiro nascimento, uma medida comumente usada para o comportamento reprodutivo. A maioria das variantes descobertas \u00e9 muito mais significativa em mulheres do que em homens. Variantes m\u00faltiplas s\u00e3o genes pr\u00f3ximos que t\u00eam pap\u00e9is na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de espermatozoides e \u00f3vulos, bem como no processo de fertiliza\u00e7\u00e3o quando um espermatozoide e um \u00f3vulo se fundem.
