O vitiligo \u00e9 uma doen\u00e7a rara caracterizada pela destrui\u00e7\u00e3o dos melan\u00f3citos pelo sistema imunol\u00f3gico do pr\u00f3prio corpo. Isso faz com que as manchas de pele percam a cor. Para entender melhor a suscetibilidade gen\u00e9tica ao vitiligo, este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma examinou os genomas de mais de 44.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia. O estudo identificou 50 variantes gen\u00e9ticas, das quais 23 foram descobertas recentemente. Juntas, as variantes identificadas explicam cerca de 17% da herdabilidade do vitiligo e muitas podem estar ligadas ao sistema imunol\u00f3gico e \u00e0 fun\u00e7\u00e3o dos melan\u00f3citos.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>VOC\u00ca SABIA?<\/strong> No passado, acreditava-se que o vitiligo era contagioso e causava estigma social.
