Na verdade, os americanos bebem quase 400 milh\u00f5es de x\u00edcaras diariamente. Embora o caf\u00e9 nos ajude a manter a produtividade ao longo do dia, as opini\u00f5es sobre seu sabor variam. Enquanto alguns precisam cobrir o gosto do caf\u00e9 com leite e a\u00e7\u00facar para ach\u00e1-lo palat\u00e1vel, outros gostam do sabor de uma x\u00edcara de caf\u00e9 preto. A percep\u00e7\u00e3o do sabor, como amargor e do\u00e7ura, e a prefer\u00eancia do sabor s\u00e3o conhecidas como heredit\u00e1rias. Este estudo tentou determinar os fatores gen\u00e9ticos que se correlacionam com o consumo de caf\u00e9 pelas pessoas, bem como outras bebidas amargas e doces. Depois de examinar os genomas de quase 370.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia, os pesquisadores identificaram 15 variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas ao consumo de caf\u00e9. Destas, 6 variantes foram recentemente identificadas neste estudo. Uma dessas variantes est\u00e1 perto de um gene que anteriormente interage com as mol\u00e9culas de cafe\u00edna.
