Um conjunto de regi\u00f5es do c\u00e9rebro que residem nas profundezas do c\u00e9rebro s\u00e3o chamadas de &#8220;estruturas subcorticais&#8221;. Essas estruturas, que incluem a am\u00edgdala, a gl\u00e2ndula pituit\u00e1ria, o tronco cerebral e outras, desempenham pap\u00e9is essenciais no aprendizado, na mem\u00f3ria e na emo\u00e7\u00e3o. No entanto, as altera\u00e7\u00f5es das estruturas subcorticais tamb\u00e9m est\u00e3o associadas a v\u00e1rios dist\u00farbios cognitivos e psicol\u00f3gicos. Este estudo teve como objetivo compreender melhor as variantes gen\u00e9ticas que est\u00e3o associadas ao volume das estruturas subcorticais do c\u00e9rebro e sua rela\u00e7\u00e3o com o desenvolvimento de dist\u00farbios neurol\u00f3gicos. Ao examinar os genomas de quase 40.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia, este estudo identificou 48 variantes gen\u00e9ticas que se correlacionam com o volume de v\u00e1rias estruturas subcorticais no c\u00e9rebro. Essas variantes s\u00e3o genes pr\u00f3ximos que t\u00eam uma gama diversificada de fun\u00e7\u00f5es, que v\u00e3o desde o controle do fluxo de informa\u00e7\u00f5es em nosso sistema nervoso at\u00e9 o neurodesenvolvimento e a inflama\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>VOC\u00ca SABIA?<\/strong> Uma estrutura subcortical chamada am\u00edgdala \u00e9 a principal regi\u00e3o envolvida em como respondemos aos sentimentos de estresse, medo e ansiedade.
