A doen\u00e7a coronariana \u00e9 a principal causa de morte nos Estados Unidos. Ocorre quando<em> placa<\/em> acumula-se nas art\u00e9rias do cora\u00e7\u00e3o e bloqueia o fluxo sangu\u00edneo para o cora\u00e7\u00e3o. Arterial<em> placa<\/em> consiste em v\u00e1rias subst\u00e2ncias que circulam no sangue, em particular gorduras e<em> colesterol<\/em> . Gorduras e<em> colesterol<\/em> n\u00e3o podem viajar pela corrente sangu\u00ednea por conta pr\u00f3pria e, em vez disso, devem ser transportados por prote\u00ednas chamadas \u201capolipoprote\u00ednas\u201d. A apolipoprote\u00edna respons\u00e1vel pelo transporte de HDL<em> colesterol<\/em> , ou o \u201cbom\u201d<em> colesterol<\/em> , no sangue \u00e9 conhecido como apolipoprote\u00edna A-1 (apoA1). Devido ao seu papel, n\u00edveis elevados de apolipoprote\u00edna A-1 podem sugerir um efeito protetor contra o desenvolvimento de doen\u00e7a card\u00edaca coron\u00e1ria.
