A maioria dos SCCs pode ser facilmente removida, mas se n\u00e3o tratada, eles podem crescer mais profundamente na pele e as c\u00e9lulas cancerosas podem se espalhar para outras partes do corpo. Este estudo combinou dados de cerca de 700.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia para identificar variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas ao SCC. Os pesquisadores descobriram 14 variantes gen\u00e9ticas previamente conhecidas, bem como 8 novas variantes. Coletivamente, essas variantes gen\u00e9ticas explicam cerca de 9% da herdabilidade do SCC.
