A doen\u00e7a coronariana \u00e9 a principal causa de morte nos Estados Unidos. Ocorre quando<em> placa<\/em> acumula-se nas art\u00e9rias do cora\u00e7\u00e3o e bloqueia o fluxo sangu\u00edneo para o cora\u00e7\u00e3o. Arterial<em> placa<\/em> consiste em v\u00e1rias subst\u00e2ncias que circulam no sangue. Uma das subst\u00e2ncias que o estudo examinou \u00e9 o LDL (lipoprote\u00edna de baixa densidade)<em> colesterol<\/em> , tamb\u00e9m conhecido como o &#8220;ruim&#8221;<em> colesterol<\/em> . Para tanto, este estudo analisou dados gen\u00e9ticos de mais de 440.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia para identificar regi\u00f5es gen\u00f4micas associadas ao LDL.<em> colesterol<\/em> n\u00edveis no sangue. Os pesquisadores identificaram 220 variantes gen\u00e9ticas, incluindo 123 novas variantes, associadas ao LDL<em> colesterol<\/em> n\u00edveis. A an\u00e1lise mostrou que um alto n\u00edvel de LDL<em> colesterol<\/em> n\u00edvel est\u00e1 associado a um risco aumentado de doen\u00e7a card\u00edaca coron\u00e1ria.
