Ajuda a manter os ossos fortes e dentes saud\u00e1veis e tamb\u00e9m pode proteger contra uma s\u00e9rie de doen\u00e7as, como o diabetes tipo 1. Embora a vitamina D n\u00e3o esteja presente em muitos alimentos que comemos, nosso corpo a produz naturalmente em resposta \u00e0 exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao sol. \u00c9 isso que d\u00e1 \u00e0 vitamina D o apelido de \u201cvitamina do sol\u201d. A vitamina D produzida \u00e9 posteriormente processada pelo corpo em uma s\u00e9rie de rea\u00e7\u00f5es qu\u00edmicas. Uma dessas rea\u00e7\u00f5es transforma a vitamina D em 25-hidroxivitamina D (25OHD), um indicador comumente medido dos n\u00edveis de vitamina D no corpo. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma examinou mais de 417.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia para identificar variantes gen\u00e9ticas ligadas aos n\u00edveis de 25OHD. O estudo encontrou 143 variantes. Muitas das variantes s\u00e3o encontradas perto de genes ativos no f\u00edgado, o \u00f3rg\u00e3o respons\u00e1vel por transformar a vitamina D em 25OHD. Outras variantes foram localizadas em genes relacionados a processos na pele. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>VOC\u00ca SABIA?<\/strong> Os baixos n\u00edveis de vitamina D podem levar a uma s\u00e9rie de problemas de sa\u00fade, incluindo cansa\u00e7o, dores e dores nos ossos.
