Mais de 1 em cada 10 pessoas s\u00e3o afetadas por sonol\u00eancia diurna excessiva, que pode ser um sintoma mais amplo de muitos dist\u00farbios relacionados ao sono, como apn\u00e9ia do sono e narcolepsia. Este estudo examinou os dados gen\u00e9ticos de mais de 450.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia que relataram como se sentem sonolentos durante o dia. Esta an\u00e1lise identificou 42 novas variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas \u00e0 sonol\u00eancia diurna excessiva. Essas variantes explicaram 6,9% da herdabilidade da sonol\u00eancia diurna. Algumas variantes parecem estar relacionadas ao adormecer (propens\u00e3o ao sono), enquanto outras parecem estar relacionadas \u00e0 perman\u00eancia no sono (fragmenta\u00e7\u00e3o do sono).
