Em pouco mais de um ano, infectou 8.000 pessoas e causou mais de 900 mortes em todo o mundo. Os sintomas t\u00edpicos incluem febre alta, dor de cabe\u00e7a e tosse seca. Estudos anteriores mostraram que<em> interferons<\/em> pode inibir a replica\u00e7\u00e3o do SARS<em> coronav\u00edrus<\/em> induzindo a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de prote\u00ednas antivirais como MxA. Este estudo demonstrou que uma variante gen\u00e9tica (rs17000900) pr\u00f3xima ao gene MxA influencia sua atividade quando as c\u00e9lulas s\u00e3o expostas a<em> interferons<\/em> . O estudo tamb\u00e9m examinou a informa\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica de mais de 1200 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia chinesa e estabeleceu uma rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre esta variante gen\u00e9tica e o risco de SARS<em> coronav\u00edrus<\/em> infec\u00e7\u00e3o. Os resultados sugerem que o alelo A da variante rs17000900 est\u00e1 ligado a uma diminui\u00e7\u00e3o da suscetibilidade \u00e0 SARS<em> coronav\u00edrus<\/em> infec\u00e7\u00e3o.
