N\u00e3o apresenta os primeiros sintomas (aura) que outros tipos de enxaqueca apresentam, como tonturas, formigamento na pele ou fraqueza. Eles parecem ser heredit\u00e1rios, mas poucas variantes gen\u00e9ticas foram descobertas. Este estudo identificou v\u00e1rias variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas a esta condi\u00e7\u00e3o em 6.906 indiv\u00edduos alem\u00e3es e holandeses, as mais significativas das quais estavam nos genes MEF2D, PHACTR1 e ASTN2, bem como uma pr\u00f3xima ao gene TGFBR2. MEF2D \u00e9 altamente expresso no c\u00e9rebro e ajuda os neur\u00f4nios a formar e enviar sinais. PHACTR1 desempenha um papel na atividade sin\u00e1ptica (as sinapses permitem que os neur\u00f4nios passem sinais para outras c\u00e9lulas). O produto do gene ASTN2 ajuda os neur\u00f4nios a se moverem guiados pelas c\u00e9lulas gliais, que s\u00e3o c\u00e9lulas que circundam os neur\u00f4nios e fornecem suporte.
