Essas estruturas t\u00eam fun\u00e7\u00f5es relacionadas \u00e0 regula\u00e7\u00e3o do movimento, aprendizagem, mem\u00f3ria e motiva\u00e7\u00e3o. Neste estudo, o volume das estruturas cerebrais de 30.717 indiv\u00edduos foi medido por meio de imagens de resson\u00e2ncia magn\u00e9tica (RM). O estudo identificou associa\u00e7\u00f5es entre variantes gen\u00e9ticas e o volume de diferentes estruturas subcorticais. As associa\u00e7\u00f5es mais fortes foram encontradas perto de genes de desenvolvimento que regulam a apoptose (morte celular programada) e o crescimento de neur\u00f4nios.
