O c\u00e2ncer de tireoide \u00e9 mais heredit\u00e1rio do que a maioria dos outros tipos de c\u00e2ncer e afeta mais de 50.000 pessoas a cada ano nos Estados Unidos. Este estudo desenvolveu uma pontua\u00e7\u00e3o polig\u00eanica baseada em 10 variantes gen\u00e9ticas previamente identificadas para prever o risco de c\u00e2ncer papilar de tireoide, o tipo mais comum da doen\u00e7a. Os pesquisadores descobriram que a pontua\u00e7\u00e3o explicava cerca de 8% da herdabilidade do c\u00e2ncer em seu grupo de estudo. A previs\u00e3o tornou-se mais precisa quando a pontua\u00e7\u00e3o polig\u00eanica foi usada junto com fatores cl\u00ednicos para prever o risco de c\u00e2ncer. He earned an M.S. and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) Ph.D. program at Harvard University.\u00a0He has experience in science policy as an intern at the Science and Innovation Network where he assisted in the science diplomacy functions of the British Consulate-General and as a research associate at TScan Therapeutics.
